Sunday Workshops
Back at Commonwealth Place

In 2011, Workshops will be held on Sunday June 12th

Dance Pacifica traditionally holds workshops on the day following the Gala Ball and Competition.  In 2011, it will be Sunday, June 12th.  In 2010, our workshops were taught by Dominic Lacroix and very well receive by all who attended.  Dominic was 8-time Canadian Amateur Champion and, a North American Standard Champion. If you are planning to attend the workshops in 2011,  watch this website for the announcement of next year's instructor.

The typical start time would be around 10:30AM at Saanich Commonwealth Place and, usually we offer three workshops. To view what we offered in 2010, see our workshops page for more details.

Commonwealth Place is only 20 minutes drive from the Swartz Bay ferry terminal.

Dance Pacifica Ballroom
Competition & Extravaganza

Dance Pacifica is a ballroom dance competition, exhibition, dance and dinner extravaganza hosted each year by the Victoria Ballroom Dance Society in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. It is a full day event and takes place annually on a Saturday each June. The event features the Vancouver Island Open Standard and Latin Championships.

Dance Pacifica Ball

in Victoria, BC, Canada

The Competition

The dance sport competition is sanctioned by DanceSport BC, the Canadian Amateur DanceSport Association, and the Canadian DanceSport Federation. It attracts the best amateur dancers from around BC, Alberta and the Pacific Northwest. Dancers compete in the international style dances: the Standard dances Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Slow Foxtrot and Quickstep, and the Latin dances Samba, Cha Cha, Rumba, Paso Doble and Jive.

The events offered vary from year to year: age divisions Juvenile through Senior, and difficulty levels Newcomer through Championship are usually offered. In addition, Pro Am events (teachers dancing with their students) may be offered.

The Extravaganza

Dance Pacifica is a full day event with a daytime session beginning in late morning and a semi-formal evening session ending at midnight. This gala ball is held in Victoria BC Canada, at the Saanich Commonwealth Centre, which is transformed from a world class recreational facility into a grand ballroom for the occasion. General dancing and exhibition dances are interspersed among competitive events. The extravaganza features showcase dancing by the champions or guest performers.

A buffet dinner is served between the afternoon and evening sessions. For Dance Pacifica 2011, the gala dinner will be hosted at a restuarant of our choosing nearby in the Royal Oak community. Tickets for the dancing are limited to 400 seats and the dinner is limited to around 100 to 150. Get your tickets early.

Attending Dance Pacifica is an exciting experience, even for those not familiar with ballroom dancing or dance sport competitions. It is a live sports event with a close-up view of the action. The artistic and athletic aspects of the performances, the flash of costumes, and the intensity of competition leave a lasting impression.
